New Chapter for Literacy: Bayards Hill Opens Library Extension
Back
On Friday, 6th March 2026, Bayards Hill Primary School celebrated a major milestone as Paul James, CE of the River Learning Trust, officially opened the school’s new library extension. The project, which honours a local benefactor, provides a modern, reading-rich environment for all pupils.
The "Home Library" Initiative
A highlight of the opening was the launch of the Home Library scheme, designed by English Lead Jess Gibson. This pioneering commitment ensures every child from Nursery to Year 6 builds their own collection of books to keep.
- Termly Books: Pupils receive a new book at key milestones and every full term.
- Free Book Fridays: A mobile library now visits the playground every Friday to provide free books for families.
A Community Celebration
The event featured award-winning author Deborah Bertulis, who shared her passion for storytelling in classrooms and assemblies. Parents and carers joined their children to explore the new suite, with many pupils filling "book pouches" to the brim from the Free Book Friday collections.
"Reading is truly at the heart of everything we do," shared Headteacher Mrs. Amy Jones. "This beautiful new space will inspire a love of books and nurture curiosity."
In the spirit of giving, the school dedicated its World Book Day donations to Thomley Hall, a local charity supporting people with disabilities.
